The platform for the
Ecosocial Market Economy

The Ecosocial Market Economy ...

... connects economy, environment, and social responsibility. The goal is to harmonize economic success, social justice, and environmental protection – so that future generations can also live well.

The idea was developed in 1989 by Josef Riegler. His approach: The market should be used specifically for environmental and climate protection. Through principles such as true-cost pricing, the polluter pays principle, and ecological tax reforms, sustainable decisions are intended to become economically sensible as well.
To achieve this balance, clear rules and measures are needed that are further developed in collaboration with scientists, experts, and interested stakeholders.

we.create.future

The ecosocial market economy balances the environment, economy, and society. All three areas are of equal importance and are considered simultaneously.

About Us

As an independent association, we work on a scientific basis. We advise policymakers in line with the idea of an ecosocial market economy developed by Josef Riegler.

The independent Knowledge platform

We are committed to anchoring the eco-social market economy in politics in Austria and across Europe. The eco-social market economy combines environmental, economic, and social responsibility: it creates jobs, strengthens the economy, and protects the natural foundations of life – simultaneously and sustainably. As an independent association based in Vienna, we develop concrete recommendations for future-oriented policies based on scientific research and in dialogue with experts.
