The Ecosocial Forum Austria & Europe works on regional and national topics as well as on international issues and serves as the umbrella organisation of the regional Ecosocial Forums in Austrian Provinces and Ecosocial Forums in other European countries.
The Austrian Society for Agricultural and Forestry Policy was founded in 1968. Its first president was Karl Schleinzer, at the time Austrian Minister for Agriculture. In 1992, the Society was renamed into Ecosocial Forum, and the range of topics was extended to also include economic policy issues. Josef Riegler became president. In 2001, the Ecosocial Forum Europe was founded as a sister association to address European and international issues. Josef Riegler also served as president.
Since 2018 the two organisations operate as a joint association under the name Ecosocial Forum Austria & Europe. Currently Stephan Pernkopf serves as president. Honorary presidents are Josef Riegler, Franz Fischer and Franz-Josef Radermacher. The work of the Ecosocial Forum is financed by membership fees, project funding, donations, sponsoring and the sale of publications.
